From Shanghai with Love - Traditional Culture Meets Modern Tech
Initiated during the summer renovation of 2018, this cultural innovation project introduced Chinese traditional aesthetics to the Edinburgh International Festival - one of the world's oldest and most prestigious multidisciplinary arts platforms. Notably, the work was subsequently showcased at the National Museum of China's "40 Years of Reform and Opening-Up" Achievement Exhibition, a landmark governmental event commemorating China's socioeconomic transformation.
Through interdisciplinary collaboration with advanced material laboratories and smart manufacturing enterprises, the collection incorporates an array of cutting-edge human-computer interaction technologies: luminous fiber-optic weaving systems, shape-memory chromatic textiles, precision laser-engraved structural components, and biomedical monitoring modules.
This transdisciplinary endeavor garnered substantial institutional support, including technical partnerships with material science corporations, production alliances with heritage textile manufacturers, and cross-border sponsorship from both the UK and Chinese governments. Serving as a dynamic platform for cultural diplomacy, the collection systematically deconstructs China's aesthetic heritage through technological reinterpretation, presenting an innovative paradigm that revitalizes traditional craftsmanship with contemporary scientific rigor.
